Brass Band Northwest

Brass Band Northwest on KING FM's "Live By George" broadcast
from the Kirkland Performance Center, April 8, 2002

Listen to a Live Performance of
"Fanfare and Flourishes" by James Curnow.

British Brass Bands originated in the 1840's to 1850's in England and imply a specified instrumentation that includes: Bb Cornets, Eb Soprano Cornet, Bb Fluglehorn, Eb Tenor Horns, Bb English Baritones, Bb Euphoniums, Trombones, Bass Trombone, both Bb & Eb Tubas, and Percussion. Usually a total of 28 to 30 members. There are generally no trumpets or French horns in a British Brass Band . Click here to read more about the history of brass bands.

The purpose of Brass Band Northwest is to perform and preserve the literature and stylings of British-style brass band music by educating the public and performers in a fun and entertaining manner through regular rehearsals, concerts, and special programs. Brass Band Northwest is comprised of both professional and amateur brass and percussion players from all over the Pacific Northwest. All that said, we are very serious about having fun making good music. :-)

Steve Keene is the Artistic Director, Principal Conductor and frequent Cornet Soloist. For information about other players in the band, click here.
