Lauren Anderson, trumpeter, is a graduate of the University of Washington where he studied with William D. Cole. Professor Anderson has appeared as a featured soloist with numerous Northwest area orchestras and has performed recitals throughout Washington and in Alaska, Oregon, and Idaho.

Professor Anderson has performed with many of the Northwest’s best-known music ensembles including the Oregon Symphony, the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra and Seattle Opera Orchestra. He is a founding member of the Washington Brass Ensemble, one of the Northwest’s premiere chamber ensembles. He has toured with the ensemble throughout Washington State and in Alaska, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Arizona and British Columbia. During the 1995-96 season, he was Principal Trumpet of Orquesta Filarmonica de la UNAM in Mexico City.

Also active as a conductor, Professor Anderson is Music Director and Conductor of the Pacific Chamber Orchestra, the Seattle Symphonic Band and formerly the Music Director for Everett Opera. As an educator, he has taught at all levels of the public schools and was for 14 years Instructor of Trumpet at Seattle Pacific University. He currently serves part-time on the faculties of Western Washington University and North Seattle Community College.

Lauren has graciously consented to direct Brass Band Northwest through the 2007-2008 season while Steve Keene is on sabbatical leave.

Mr. Keene is currently Instructor of Trumpet at the Woods House Conservatory in Wenatchee, WA, trumpet coach for the Icicle Creek Youth Symphony in Leavenworth, WA, and his brass quintet, Icicle Brass, performs throughout Eastern Washington. Principal Trumpet with the Northwest Chamber Orchestra from 1980 through 1995, he has performed at various times with the Seattle Symphony, Seattle Opera, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Bellevue Philharmonic, Federal Way Philharmonic, Auburn Symphony, Mid-Columbia Symphony, Seattle Philharmonic, Seattle Brass Ensemble, Seattle Concert Band, Washington Wind Symphony, Tuxedo Junction Big Band, and many other Northwest ensembles. Originally from New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area, he has also performed with the New England Brass Quintet and the Soviet Emigre' Chamber Orchestra in Carnegie Hall. Steve was also trumpet instructor and Wind Faculty Coordinator for the Midsummer Musical Retreat in Walla Walla, WA for 15 years, and has performed with the Leavenworth Summer Theatre as both orchestra director and trumpeter.

Steve studied trumpet with Manny Laureano of the Minneapolis Symphony, Armando Ghitalla of the Boston Symphony, and Mark Gould of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. He earned bachelor's degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in both Music Education and Trumpet Performance, and studied trumpet there with William Pfund. He earned a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where his primary teacher was David Greenhoe.

Steve also served as Director of Bands and Brass Instructor on the faculties of West Virginia Wesleyan College and Dickinson State University in North Dakota, and as Trumpet Instructor at Western Washington University.

Steve is a Yamaha Performing Artist, proudly performing exclusively on Yamaha trumpets and cornets. His wife, Kristin, is also a very fine trumpet player and performs along with him in the Icicle Brass quintet.
